Locations let you tie comments to specific spots within a property. In other words, you can pinpoint the exact location of the item you're commenting on using Locations.
A great example of how Locations can be particularly useful is for smoke detectors. You can mark the exact location of a smoke detector within a home and add a comment about it. Or, Locations could be use to inspect a home "room by room".
Getting started
In this article we'll go over how to use the default Location catalog and how to access Locations within the App during an inspection.
Setup your catalog of locations:
Select a default location for a certain line
Select a location for a specific comment
Use locations while performing an inspection:
Modifying the locations catalog
Palmtech Complete already includes a large catalog of locations, however, the catalog can be easily modified to include more or have fewer options. The catalog of locations is specific to the template it's in, which means that the catalog of locations of other templates isn't modified.
- To modify the locations catalog for a template, select the template you want to modify and choose the Edit option
- Find the Locations field from within any of the template's Lines, then click the blue Edit button to the right
- Tap the Edit Template Location List button in the bottom left corner of this window
- This new view lets you add, delete, rename, and move locations
- Once finished tap the Done Editing button
Choosing a default location for a line
Lines can have default locations tied to them. For example, the line Entry doors which is found within the Exterior category could have a location of 1st Floor set as the default.
- To modify the default location for a line first select the template you want to modify and choose the Edit option
- Find the Locations field from within the template Line you want to modify, then click the blue Edit button to the right
- Click on the locations to form the exact location you wish to set as default for this line. For example to mark this line's default location as being in the 1st Floor Master Bedroom tap the buttons for "1st Floor", "Master", and "Bedroom".
- To delete a location, click on it within the Default Location bar in the top portion of this window
- Once finished tap the green Apply button
Choose a default location for a comment
Comments can also have default locations. As an example, the comment Heave(s) in concrete causing trip hazard could have a default location of Exterior Surface or Driveway.
- To modify the default location for a comment first select the template you want to modify and choose the Edit option
- Find the Line that contains the comment you need to edit
- Within the comment you want to modify click the blue Edit button to the right
- Click on the locations to form the exact location you wish to set as default for this line. For example to mark this line's default location as being in the Attached Closet tap the buttons for "Attached", and "Closet".
- To delete a location, click on it within the Default Location bar in the top portion of this window
- Once finished tap the green Apply button
Using locations while inspecting on-site
Add location to line
To tie a location to a certain line, tap the Location field within the line you're currently inspecting. Then, specify the location by choosing from the different options available. Once finished tap the blue Save button.
Add location to comment
To tie a location to a certain comment, tap the Location field within the comment you're currently adding. Then, specify the location by choosing from the different options available. Once finished tap the blue Save button.
Edit the locations catalog
The catalog of locations can also be edited from the app, within an inspection, if needed. Tap the Edit global location list button when choosing from the location catalog.
