Getting started

When moving a Legacy version of Palmtech to a new device or if you are getting set up with Palmtech Complete and need to migrate your templates and libraries to the new version, creating a backup will help you get this accomplished. The steps to do this will depend on what version of Palmtech you have.

• Version 9
• Version 8
• Version 7

Version 9

1. The first step is to close out all programs related to Palm-Tech to ensure there isn't an inspection open.  

2. Next, open the Palm-Tech program by double-clicking on the icon on your desktop. 

3. Once the main program appears, click on the Support tab in the lower left
corner.

4. Click on Backup Program Data.

5. Next, a message will appear letting you know that your backup was created and it will tell you where the file is located.

6. Create an email and attach the file from your Maintenance folder. Send it to the Palmtech Specialist who is helping you migrate your data.

Version 8

Even though support for Version 8 ended on Oct 2, 2023, we are able to help you get your Version 8 data into Palmtech Complete. These steps will walk you through creating the backup:

1. The first step is to close out all programs related to Palm-Tech to ensure there isn't an inspection open.  
2. Next, open the Palm-Tech program by double-clicking on the icon on your desktop.
    
3. Once the main program appears, click on the ‘Support’ tab in the lower left
   corner.
   
4. Click on 'Backup Program Data'.
   
5. Next, a message will appear letting you know that your Backup was created and it will tell you where the file is located.
   
6. Create an email and attach the file from your Maintenance folder. Send it to the Palmtech Specialist who is helping you migrate your data.

Version 7

Even though Version 7 is no longer supported, we are able to help you get your Version 7 data into Palmtech Complete. These steps will walk you through creating the backup.

1. With an inspection already open, the first step is to click on Setup at the top, then Backup Program Data to Disk
   
2. Next, you will be prompted with the following Your backup has finished. Please choose what you would like to do with your backup file. You have three options to choose from: Copy to Remote Location, Email, and Nothing. Choose the option Copy to Remote Location and tell it to save to your Desktop.
   
3. Create an email and attach the file from your Desktop. Send it to the Palmtech Specialist who is helping you migrate your data.
